We have growing locations in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina in order to reach local markets and provide regional provenance.
For use in: Reforestation, Wetland Mitigation | Streambank and Riparian Restoration | Native Grasslands & Wildflower Meadows
We are a wholesale native plant nursery for landscape designers, restorationists, contractors, retail nurseries and other businesses that purchase bulk quantities of plants.
We stock a diverse array of wetland, riparian, upland forest, meadow, dune, and stream restoration species. We have also expanded our inventory to include bioengineering materials which are available in different forms. Trees and shrubs are container-grown unless otherwise noted. We are continually introducing species of native plants not previously found in cultivation . We welcome your inquiries concerning custom or contract growing.
About Sylva
“Sylva Native Nursery & Seed Co. was founded in 1988. We are a wholesale native plant nursery. We stock a diverse array of wetland riparian, upland forest, heathland meadow, dune, and stream restoration species.”
Whats in a name?
A Silva is an encyclopedic tome describing the trees and woody plants of a region. Our earliest Sylvas were written by Andreas Michaux (1842) and Charles Sprague Sargeant (1905). We chose the name to express the full selection of Eastern North American Flora we carry.
Our logo is a Magnolia flower; the Magnolia tree symbolizes luck and stability. The Sweet Bay Magnolia is a favorite tree of our founder Michael Hollins.
Habitats
We stock a diverse array of wetland riparian, upland forest, meadow, dune, and stream restoration species.
Plant List
For several years, Sylva Native Nursery & Seed Company has strived to provide native warm season grass mixtures for application in the land reclamation and ecosystem restoration field.

Contract Growing
We always welcome inquiries about growing specific large quantities or species which are not listed. This is a good way of guaranteeing availability and/or growing species which are not currently cultivated. Contract growing is available for orders placed 3 to 12 months prior to delivery date and confirmed with a deposit. Call us to discuss your future needs and to determine if a custom growing contract is right for your project. |

Why Use Native Plants?
You may be wondering “why should I use native plants?” Native plants have many advantages over plants that have been introduced from foreign sources or other areas of the United States.
In addition to satisfying the typical reasons for selecting plants (shade, color and flower characteristics), native plants can provide advantages that non-native plants cannot provide, including host plants for native insects, pollinators and food plants and habitat structure for native wildlife.
